As with AkzoNobel’s Protective Coatings business unit (see AkzoNobel accelerates digitalisation during COVID-19), the marine side of the business has launched e-Learning for sales and customers during Covid-19.

The training is on core products and ranges and includes:-

  • Intercept 8500LPP
  • Intersleek 100SR
  • Cargo Hold Range
  • Intershield 300/300HS
  • Intersmooth 7670SPC

“The primary aim of the e-Learning modules are to provide our customers with an additional layer of education during a time where ‘normal working patterns’ were disturbed,” explains Chris Birkert, Marine Segment Manager. “The modules primarily focus on products and product types, including Intersleek. He told DryDock; “There is no formal test of learning at the end of the modules; they’re designed to be done in your own time. Access to the modules is quick and easy; you need to sign up online for access then additional modules are added to your access page. Look out for updates on our International Marine social media channels.”

The modules do not include preparation, application, drying times in different climates, “as this is available within the product TDS’, he explains. “The modules provide education on changes in VOC legislation in relation to some products, others provide on education on testing methodologies in relation to particular product types.”

We do not compare products to those of our competitors directly within the e-Learning modules.

When it comes to who is actually signing up for the modules, he told DryDock; “50% of the sign ups are based in Asia, with the other 50% being split between Europe, North America and also South America. We have engineers, owners and coating inspectors who have signed up for e-Learning, across many areas of the marine industry.

The e-Learning will come to an end on 30 June, but will be available until then.
