Intellian Technologies, provider of maritime satellite communications systems, has strengthened its presence in the offshore rig support sector with an order from the largest owner/operator of vessels in Vietnam serving the oil and gas industry. The contract, which involves service provider Vinasat (VNPT), calls for the installation of 10 (ten) v100 antenna systems on a series of anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessels controlled by PTSC Marine, the PetroVietnam Technical Services Corp subsidiary.
The v100 satellite communications system delivers best-in-class RF performance by a substantial margin, and is easily convertible to Ka-band.
PTSC Marine commands a market share of around 90% in specialized vessel operations servicing E&P activities in Vietnam, but its AHTS vessels, dynamic positioning DP1 & DP2 vessels, seismic support vessels and standby vessels operate throughout waters off South East Asia, India and Russia. The Vung Tau City-based owner cooperates with others through bareboat, time charter and spot charter arrangements.
“This is a significant contract at this time, and the selection of Intellian came after an open tender process emphasising technical excellence as well as value for money,” said Woosung Chang, VP of APAC Sales at Intellian. “PTSC Marine were quite clear that their preferred solution needed to contribute to operational efficiency and crew welfare on board, but it also had to add to the vessel’s charter attractions.”
The Intellian v100 is designed to operate on Ku- and Ka-bands, maximizing performance on both. Its high-gain, precision carbon fiber reflector ensures high service performance in either configuration, achieving high throughput in combination with minimized operational costs. One of its most compelling features is that the v100 can be converted from a Ku-band to a Ka-band system in less than 10 minutes without removing the radome, with only the switch-out of an integrated RF module and feed replacement required.
“We were pleased to select Intellian for this project. Their technical solution has a number of advantages. As a company and partner they are committed to facilitating and supporting our expansion within the region. We value their approach and the flexibility they provide for our business and our customers,” said Capt. Le Tri Thanh, Director at PTSC Marine.
The v100 also benefits from automated diagnostics including the internal Spectrum Analyzer, while a built-in web interface allows shore-based staff to use Intellian’s Aptus software to manage, trouble shoot and update terminals in the field without setting foot on board a vessel.
“The performance and flexibility of the v100 make it the ideal solution for customers like PTSC Marine,” said Mr. Chang. “We are also delighted to add a further reference in the offshore support segment, where the reliability and robustness of communications equipment in extreme conditions are imperatives.”
