Hydrex divers have carried out a crack repair on a 163-meter roro vessel during the ship’s stop in Zeebrugge.
Divers located the 600 mm external crack in the engine room ballast tank, and installed a blank over the area, then worked on the crack inside the engine room without water ingress.
Frames, bulkheads and a cement box were removed to get access to the crack. Crack arrests were drilled at its extremities, and it was then filled with full penetration welding.
The repair was approved by the surveyor after ultrasonic testing by an independent tester, and finally the blank was removed from the waterside of the crack.
