Hydrex report one of their diving teams recently mobilized to a 170-meter container vessel in Rotterdam to install a doubler plate over the cavitated area of the ship’s rudder during a scheduled maintenance stop in the port.
The plate had been pre-shaped in advance to fit the rudder after a preliminary inspection in Algeciras combined with drawings provided by the owner. The team also installed cathodic anodes on both sides of the rudder for further corrosive protection.
The diver/technician team worked in continuous shifts to finish the operation inside 24 hours, fitting in with the ship’s schedule.
